PT MNC Digital Entertainment Tbk (MSIN) through its subsidiary PT Esports Star Indonesia (ESI) has signed an agreement on game publishing rights with exclusive global rights with Sugarworks for a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) genre mobile game called Fight of Legends. Under the deal, MSIN received perpetual publishing rights to the game globally, except for Vietnam. With more than 20 years of experience in work related to technology and game, Won-Jun Yang (CEO of Sugarworks), leads the creation and development of Fight of Legends, which is expected to launch in Q3-2022. "As the gaming industry grows, the company is accelerating the widening of its gaming portfolio to ensure MSIN is strategically positioned as a significant newcomer to the sector, leveraging FPS - Battle Royale and MOBA games to attract a large gamer fan base,” said Hary Tanoesoedibjo, Executive Chairman of MNC Group and President Director of MSIN. Available on iOS & Android and specifically designed to operate on low-spec devices, allowing participation from a more thorough mobile handset user base.
Fight of Legends has made it through the entire relevant process to debut and has quickly become a favorite among gamers globally due to the popularity of MOBA games in the market, shorter duration of play per session, more casual, and providing easier gameplay for players. The Game will be fully supported by the group's strong marketing and promotional capabilities for its launch to the Indonesian market, utilizing MNC's 4 FTA TVs (48.2% audience share in Prime time slot and 42.8% audience share in all-time slot/Jan 22), Online Portal (80+ million MAU/Jan 22), Social Media (449+ million subscribers/followers with 55+ billion views/Jan 22) and super AVOD & SVOD app (~110 million MAU/Jan 22). ” Our partnership with Sugarworks, in addition to MNC Group's dominant position in content production, IP ownership, and media distribution sectors, not only provides great advantages in Game promotion synergies, " said Hary Tanoesoedibjo. "But it also allows us to quickly release at scale and test launch further features expected in the gaming industry today, both at a lower cost and faster time to market and supported by the development expertise and patents owned by Won-Jun and his team.
The gaming industry in Indonesia has seen a rapid rise in recent years, with an increase in the number of gamers and time to play games. Gaming on mobile devices has increased significantly, Media Partners Asia (MPA) estimates that more than 72% of gamers access their games via smartphones.
The MPA also estimates that Indonesia will have 147 million gamers by the end of 2022, representing 38% of the population and this is expected to continue to rise until it reaches 164 million by 2026. The gaming industry's revenue in Indonesia is considerable, with the mobile, PC, and console sectors generating more than USD904 million in 2021. Games accessed through mobile devices have a large contribution to gamer spending, which is 75%, indicating a strong potential for Game Studios and publisher games in the country. By 2026, MPA projects that the sector will grow to USD1.2 billion, with a revenue CAGR of 6.5%, supported by improved consumer pay ability. "With record-breaking gaming revenue achievements around the world, we can increasingly see huge in-game opportunities powered by online and offline tournaments, competitions, and events, enabling gamers in general to not only become in-game superstars but also turn their gaming skills into a real source of income for all levels of players,” he said.
In terms of game genre popularity, MOBA is the #1 genre for Indonesian gamers on Mobile & PC, followed by puzzles and battle royale games. Popular titles in the MOBA genre include Mobile Legends, League of Legends, and Arena of Valor, while in the Battle Royale genre, well-known popular games such as FreeFire, PUBG, and Call of Duty (Warzone) top the market. With a huge gamer base, increased revenue opportunities, and by occupying two of the three most popular genres in Indonesia, MNC Digital will launch 2 mobile games called Rapid Fire (FPS - Battle Royale) and Fight of Legends (MOBA), which will be released in Q2 - 2022 and Q3-2022 respectively. The performance of these games will be a catalyst for the company going forward, as revenue from games will begin to be incorporated into business operations in 2022.
